MX One, the premium subscription offering by MX Player, embarked on a strategic initiative to invigorate its user experience. With over 15,000 subscribers already onboard, the offering underwent a significant visual revamp aimed at attracting and retaining an even larger subscriber base.

  • The optimised user flow led to a 12% increase in the conversion rate of free users to paid subscribers
  • A 25% reduction in subscription abandonment rates was observed post-implementation
  • Subscription clarity led to a 30% drop in customer support inquiries about plans

Research and Strategy

  1. User surveys were conducted and feedback from existing subscribers was analysed to understand pain points and user expectations.
  2. Competitor platforms and best practices in the OTT industry were studied to understand successful subscription user flows.

Redesigned User Flow

  1. Home Page: Introduced a prominent “Subscribe Now” call-to-action (CTA) button in the drawer navigation and displayed a banner that showcased the benefits of subscribing, such as ad-free viewing and early access to new content.
  2. Subscription Plans Page: Simplified the plans by offering two clear options: Annual and Quarterly, each with its own features and pricing. Highlighted the differences between plans, making it easy for users to choose the one that best fits their needs.
  3. Sign-In/Sign-Up: If not logged in, users were prompted to sign in or sign up before proceeding. The sign-up process was streamlined by only requiring essential information.
  4. Payment Details: Multiple payment methods were supported, including credit/debit cards, UPI, and net banking.
  5. Confirmation and Enjoyment: Upon successful payment, users receive a confirmation message with a summary of their subscription plan and its benefits. They were directly lead to the content library, encouraging immediate engagement.
  6. Subscription Management: A dedicated section was created in the user profile for subscription management, allowing users to easily upgrade, downgrade, or cancel their subscription. A renewal date reminder was included to keep users informed about upcoming charges.

The streamlined, clear, and user-friendly process resulted in higher conversion rates, increased user satisfaction, and improved cross-platform consistency. MX Player’s commitment to providing an exceptional subscription journey positioned it strongly for future growth and success.
