Faith in the divine

I love studying human nature. And faith in the divine being has got to be the most intriguing aspect of the human mind. This “faith” which practically has no backbone of any sort is still powerful enough to bring high spirits to the ones who apparently believe in it. It was only last night that I had been to the great shrine of Siddhi Vinayak where I actually saw people fully immersed in the holy atmosphere. They were performing countless different tasks and everyone doing it differently. When asked what did it mean to them, a common answer would come out “people say it is good to do this”. Was this the basis of their belief? Just because society follows certain norms regarding religion, does that give us the excuse to make it a part of our life? Have the thousands and possibly lakhs of people who’ve made this a daily routine ever sat back and thought about “why” are they doing this? This may seem very obsolete in the practical world... but hey, as long as we derive satisfaction from something why curb it?
