Yoga – the new sensation.

Yoga - the new sensation.

This time around, the transition from 2006 to 2007 was very relaxed and laid back. No hardcore dancing and no zonked off people. Plain chill out style celebration with cakes and cosy cuddles.

Anyway after settling back to my routine today, I just happened to glance through the newspaper where I get to read about this 14-year old boy who died at Baba Ramdev’s camp. This boy was suffering from a congenital heart disease and went all the way to Ramdev’s camp hoping he would be cured of it following the claims of the baba that yoga can cure diseases like AIDS, Cancer, etc. The best part was the Rs. 500 entry ticket found in the dead boy’s pocket.

The point I’m trying to make is that Baba Ramdev is just minting money. Yoga can never cure you of any disease. At the most it can make you flexible. And of course a few broken bones if you try too hard. All those people who appear regularly on channels like Aastha only do that for the sake of making some Vitamin M. It’s okay if they’re duping people with their antics – most of the people in spite of being educated are rationally uneducated. But these babas get onto my nerves when they very conveniently declare scientific medicine as useless and harmful. They are blinding people just as the Popes and the Rishis used to blind the people centuries ago with all those heavenly talks and after-life salvations. I’m happy that most of the people are at least over that. But there are still countless myths circulating around and I don’t blame people for it. They have been socially conditioned to act and behave in a certain way which society considers correct and fruitful.

Sometime ago I was the only person who claimed that homeopathy equals placebo. And a little while later it was all over the news. (read more…) Now I’m making another big claim – yoga can never cure you of any disease. Mark my words!

And yeah, a Happy New Year to all of you… Have a rocking oops… tranc’n year ahead!
