Don’t be ignorant. Track swine flu online.
2009 at 1:39 PM, Monday
More recently, since the outbreak of swine flu on the Mexico-U.S. border, I’ve noticed a lot of people (including my friends) being misinformed about it’s possible pandemic. Just like Tommy Lee Jones claimed in MIB – "People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.", it’s very easy to spread rumours especially over the online social networking sites. But on the other hand, these social networks are our best bet at getting the right news.
The following list of resources will help you track swine flu across the globe.
→ Google Flu Trends
Google Flu Trends uses aggregated Google search data to estimate flu activity in your state up to two weeks faster than traditional systems.
→ The Swine Flu Tracking Map
A visualization of confirmed, suspected, and a few negative cases of human swine flu infection across the globe.
→ FluTracker
Tracking the progress of H1N1 swine flu compiled by Dr. Henry Niman, a biomedical researcher in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
→ OpenFlu – Swine Flu Tracker
User generated links – just create an account and submit URLs with new information as they arise.
Along with maps, we also have heaps of Twitter pages dedicated to tracking the same:
→ outbreak.tweetmeme
Find a list of the most popular tweets concerning swine flu.
→ Veratect’s Twitter updates
These guys specialize in earliest detection of emerging threats to human. And now they have their own Twitter feed.
Finally, if you don’t know what swine flu is, then I would strongly suggest you check out these links:
Swine Flu World and of course Swine flu on Wikipedia
